Job summary

Phoenix Children's is seeking an SPD Certified Technician to support decontamination and sterilization of surgical instruments in accordance with AAMI and regulatory standards.

The role requires CS/SPD Technician training, national CSPD CRCST certification, and 3 years in a central sterile setting. You will coordinate with ORs, maintain records, and ensure instruments are ready for procedures.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or GED required.
• Completion of an accredited CS/SPD Technician course.
• National CSPD Technician certification or CRCST certification required.
• 3 years of experience in a central sterile department or surgical instrument room.
• Basic working knowledge of computers.
• Able to comprehend written and verbal instructions.

Responsibilities

• Ensures decontamination of instrumentation in accordance with manufacturers’ recommendations and AAMI standards.
• Receives soiled case carts/bins and instruments into the decontamination area.
• Prioritizes instruments needed for turnaround.
• Hand washes/pre-soaks instruments in an enzymatic solution.
• Changes chemicals for washers when indicated to ensure proper chemicals are used.
• Maintains records for sterilization.
• Acts as liaison between the Operating Room and Sterile Processing to communicate changes and needs for subsequent cases.
• Checks operating room needs regularly.
• Checks case carts/bins for needed items.
• Returns unused items to Sterile Processing.
• Assists in assembling case carts.
• Maintains supplies in ORs and clean core.
• Maintains effective communication to ensure instrumentation is available for surgery.
• Assembles and tests instrumentation and inspects for damage.
• Determines when repair/replacement is needed.
• Wraps instruments/sets and uses count sheets for proper sorting.
