Job summary

University Medical Center of El Paso (UMC) is seeking an experienced RN in SANE/trauma and ED settings. You will deliver comprehensive nursing care, perform forensic examinations for sexual assault patients, and collaborate with law enforcement and child/adult protective services as needed.

Candidate must hold a Texas RN license, CPR, and SANE certification. A BSN is preferred; TNCC/ENPC/CPI training and instructor status are highly desirable for this role.

Qualifications

  • Three years RN experience in SANE/Trauma/ED/ICU/Pediatrics/Woman’s Health or related field.
  • Texas RN license with CPR certification.
  • SANE adult and pediatric examiner certification.
  • BSN required; ADN with extensive clinical exp. may be considered.
  • TNCC, ENPC, CPI training within 1 year; instructor status preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Deliver nursing care using assessment, diagnosis, planning, implementation and evaluation.
  • Conduct timely medical/forensic exams for sexual assault patients with law enforcement collaboration.
  • Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to ensure high-quality patient care.
  • Apply age- and culture-sensitive care to diverse patients.

Job description

Summary

Responsible for the delivery of patient care through the nursing process of assessment, diagnosing, planning, implementation, and evaluation. Provides timely medical/forensic examination of the sexual assault/forensic patient under the collaboration of law enforcement, or Adult or Child Protective Services. Collaborates with other professional disciplines to ensure effective and efficient patient care delivery and the achievement of desired patient outcomes. Utilizes knowledge of patient’s age and cultural diversity in the provision of patient care. Contributes to the provision of quality nursing care through performance improvement techniques that demonstrate positive outcomes in patient care.

Work Experience

Three years of experience as a Registered Nurse in the following areas: SANE, Trauma, Emergency Department, ICU, Pediatrics, and /or Woman’s Health or other related field.



License/Registration/Certification


  • Current and active license to practice as a Registered Nurse in the state of Texas is required.

  • Current CPR training is required.

  • Certification as an adult and pediatric Sexual Assault Nurse Examiner from the Texas’s Attorney General’s Office.



Education and Training


  • Bachelor degree in Nursing is required. May consider Associate degree in Nursing with 5 years of clinical experience in the following areas: SANE, Trauma, Emergency Department, ICU, Pediatrics, Woman’s Health or other related field.

  • Completion of the Trauma Nurse Core Course (TNCC) or Advance Trauma Course for Nurses (ATCN) is required within one year of being in the department.

  • Completion of the Emergency Pediatric Nurse Course (ENPC) is required within one year of being in the department.

  • Completion of the Crisis Prevention Intervention (CPI) is required within one year of being in the department.

  • TNCC/ATCN and ENPC instructor status is preferred.
