Job summary

UAB Medicine is seeking a Respiratory Therapist to join the St. Vincent’s St. Clair team. You will provide evaluation of respiratory patients, determine treatment frequency, and implement care plans in a high-acuity hospital environment.

You will monitor patient progress, operate advanced respiratory equipment, educate families, and participate in equipment maintenance and inventory. This role requires Alabama licensure and NBRC credentials, with a PRN schedule and a strong teamwork ethic.

Qualifications

• BLS Provider within 1 month of hire.
• Licensed Respiratory Therapist credentialed by the Alabama Board.
• Certified Respiratory Therapist credentialed by NBRC.
• Graduate from an accredited School of Respiratory Therapy.

Responsibilities

• Provide evaluation of and care for patients with respiratory insufficiencies.
• Assess patient for appropriate type and frequency of treatment and develop a plan of care based on diagnosis.
• Implement and monitor patient care plan and equipment; monitor and communicate patient condition.
• Perform advanced respiratory care modalities and evaluate respiratory practice and medications.
• Educate the patient and family about health conditions and community resources.
• Assist with care, calibration and maintenance of equipment; manage inventory and cleaning/sterilization procedures.
• Respond to emergency resuscitation team calls.

What You Will Do

• Provide evaluation of and care for patients with respiratory insufficiencies.

• Implement and monitor patient care plan and equipment. Monitor, record and communicate patient condition. Perform advanced respiratory care modalities.
• Evaluate respiratory practice, administration of medications, and treatment based on patient outcomes.
• Educate the patient and family about the health condition and provide information about community support groups and other available programs.
• Assist with care, calibration and maintenance of all equipment. Participate in maintaining departmental inventory levels for supplies and equipment. Processe equipment per established cleaning/sterilization procedures.
• Respond to emergency resuscitation team calls

Licensure / Certification / Registration:

• BLS Provider obtained within 1 Month (30 days) of hire date or job transfer date required. American Heart Association or American Red Cross accepted.
• Licensed Respiratory Therapist credentialed from the Alabama Board of Respiratory Therapy obtained prior to hire date or job transfer date required.
• Certified Respiratory Therapist credentialed from the National Board for Respiratory Care (NBRC) obtained prior to hire date or job transfer date required.
