About Penn Medicine

Penn Medicine, one of the premier academic medical centers in the country, is seeking CRNAs for the Department of Anesthesiology and Critical Care at the following locations:

  • Inpatient: The Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania, Penn Presbyterian Medical Center
  • Outpatient: The Center for Advanced Medicine (Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania campus)

Location: Radnor, PA

Summary

The Certified Registered Nurse Anesthetist (CRNA) provides anesthesia services across all surgical specialties within the health system. Working in a collaborative care team model, the CRNA develops patient-specific anesthesia plans, manages intraoperative hemostasis, selects appropriate hemodynamic monitoring, inserts invasive monitors, and performs regional anesthesia when appropriate.

Responsibilities
  1. Conduct preoperative visits, assess patient conditions, discuss anesthetic management, and administer anesthesia in consultation with staff anesthesiologists, adhering to professional standards and licensing laws.
  2. Prepare and test supplies and equipment before anesthesia procedures, assist in patient preparation in the operating room.
  3. Utilize monitoring equipment such as arterial, CVP, and SG catheter lines, oximetry, capnography, and peripheral nerve stimulators.
  4. Administer various anesthesia types including inhalation, intravenous, spinal, epidural, and nerve blocks under supervision of staff anesthesiologists.
  5. Maintain anesthesia according to current standards, monitor patient condition, and respond to anesthetic emergencies.
  6. Record preoperative, operative, and postoperative data accurately, including drugs used, in patient records.
  7. Assist in postoperative patient care, monitor until transfer to PAR or SICU, and provide full reports to receiving nurses, verifying initial vital signs.
  8. Support ICU patient care, participate in the Cardiac Resuscitation Team, and contribute to anesthesiology education for interns, residents, and medical students.
  9. Maintain equipment and participate in department quality improvement activities.
