ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Treat staff, practitioners, visitors, and patients with dignity and respect.
- Interview patients, including medical history, vital signs, vision screening, etc., and record information in EHR.
- Share information gathered from patients with appropriate team members to assist in comprehensive patient care.
- Assist practitioners during examinations as needed.
- Administer medications and injections or immunizations as per practitioners' orders.
- Sterilize and maintain medical equipment in good working order.
- Collect specimens for laboratory testing and perform routine in-house laboratory work.
- Prepare specimens for outside laboratory studies.
- Perform simple wound care.
- Maintain exam room supplies and cleanliness.
- Follow clinic guidelines and protocols, and participate in creating new ones.
- Handle paperwork and clerical duties, including answering phones and computer entry.
- Perform routine diagnostic tests (e.g., EKG) and schedule outside diagnostic studies and consultations.
- Participate in community health and disease prevention activities.
- Engage in the organization's Quality Improvement Program.
- Participate in daily team huddles and staff development programs.
- Manage personal and staff clinical inboxes.
- Respond promptly to appointment messages and requests via phone and portal.
- Educate patients about PCMH and how the care team can assist them.
- Be an active member of the patient's care team within team work.
- Ensure patients receive a visit summary and address barriers to transportation.
- Confirm patients have an identified primary care provider.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE
Graduation from an accredited medical assisting program and at least one year of experience in the medical field, or completion of an approved internship program, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
