Responsibilities

Compass Intervention Center is seeking a dynamic and talented Certified Recreational Therapist for our Acute Hospital. The Certified Recreational Therapist is responsible for assessing clients’ leisure and recreational activities, providing age- and developmentally-appropriate therapy groups, and establishing behavioral treatment goals consistent with the philosophy and objectives of Compass Intervention Center. The Certified Recreational Therapist creates a safe environment for clients, provides direct supervision, empowers clients, and teaches new coping tools to clients.

Key Responsibilities

• Assess clients’ leisure and recreational activities and determine appropriate intervention plans.
• Provide age- and developmentally-appropriate therapy groups.
• Establish behavioral treatment goals in line with organization philosophy and objectives.
• Create a safe environment, supervise clients directly, empower them, and teach coping tools.
• Demonstrate flexibility for reassignment to groups serving varied populations including children, adolescents with emotional, behavioral, chemical dependency, or dual diagnoses in residential care.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Sports Management, Leisure Management, Recreational Therapy or related field.
• Certified Recreational Therapist (CTRS) required.
• One year of experience working with a mental health population; preferred activity therapy experience.
• Preferred knowledge of group leadership skills, age-specific growth and development, crisis and behavior management.
