Job summary

Novant Health is seeking an experienced healthcare coder to join our team. The role focuses on accurate coding of cardiovascular-related encounters, ensuring compliance with CMS and payer requirements, and maximizing reimbursement.

You will perform site visits monthly and collaborate with physicians and staff to maintain coding accuracy. Ideal candidates have 4+ years of healthcare experience with at least 3 years in professional coding, strong CPT/ICD-10-CM/HCPCS knowledge, and excellent

Qualifications

  • 4+ years of healthcare experience with at least 3+ years of professional coding experience.
  • Working knowledge of CPT, ICD-10-CM, and HCPCS coding.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with patients, physicians, staff, and administration.
  • Ability to perform self-audit of work and understand impact on revenue cycle.
  • Professionalism in demeanor, dress, and communication; capable of passing mock feedback sessions with physicians.

Responsibilities

  • Schedule: Monday – Friday, daytime hours.
  • Perform monthly site visits with assigned clinics.
  • Code cardiovascular events (surgeries, procedures, office visits).
  • Review surgical operative reports and abstract codes and diagnoses for billing.
  • Ensure coding adheres to CMS, NCQA, payers and regulations.
  • Educate physicians on correct coding techniques to maximize reimbursement.
  • Communicate via email, Teams, and phone; participate in multidisciplinary meetings.

What You'll Do:

  • Schedule: Monday - Friday, daytime hours.
  • Perform monthly site visits with assigned clinics.
  • Perform coding of cardiovascular events (surgeries, procedures, office visits).
  • Review surgical operative reports and abstract clinical diagnoses, procedure codes, and other pertinent information to bill appropriately for services.
  • Ensure all technical aspects of the assignment of diagnostic and procedure coding are carried out in accordance with established standards and in compliance with CMS, NCQA, third party payers and other regulatory agencies.
  • Ensure physicians are continually educated on correct coding techniques to maximize reimbursement.
  • Communicate effectively via email, Microsoft Teams, and phone; actively participate in multidisciplinary team meetings.

What We're Looking For:

Required:

  • Licensure: CPC, CCS-P, COC, CMC, RHIA, or RHIT credentials.
  • High School Diploma or GED.
  • 4+ years of healthcare experience with at least 3+ years of professional coding experience.
  • Demonstrate a working knowledge of Current Procedure Technology (CPT), ICD-10 CM, and HCPCS coding.
  • Demonstrate the ability to effectively communicate and work with patients, physicians, staff, and administration.
  • Demonstrate outstanding interpersonal, written, and verbal communication skills and the ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
  • Able to perform self-audit of work and awareness of the impact on revenue cycle.
  • Must be professional in demeanor, dress, and communication style with the ability to pass a mock feedback session with physicians.

Preferred:

  • 3+ years of cardiovascular coding experience.
  • 2+ years of medical terminology experience and three years of customer service experience in a clinic setting.
  • Intermediate to advance experience with Microsoft Office products.
