Job summary

Hoag Memorial Hospital Presbyterian is seeking a Certified Phlebotomy Technician (CPT) to collect, receive, process, and distribute laboratory specimens across multiple locations. The CPT will perform patient phlebotomy, communicate test results between departments, and help maintain equipment and supply par levels.

Candidates should demonstrate thorough phlebotomy technique knowledge, maintain aseptic standards, label specimens accurately, and dispose of needles properly.

Qualifications

• High school graduate or equivalent required.
• One year of healthcare experience preferred.

Responsibilities

• The CPT collects, receives, processes and distributes laboratory specimens.
• The CPT performs patient phlebotomy at different locations.
• The CPT communicates tests results inter- and intra-department as needed.
• The CPT helps to maintain equipment and supply par levels.
• Demonstrates thorough understanding of various phlebotomy techniques.
• Maintains aseptic techniques when collecting specimens and uses appropriate technique when drawing blood.
• Labels specimen immediately after completion of the procedure.
• Disposes used needles and supplies in suitable containers.
• The CPT maintains a working knowledge of departmental standard operating procedures.
• The CPT projects an image of professionalism in communication, appearance and conduct, and supports the laboratory mission.
• The CPT will maintain current knowledge of departmental updates, policies and procedures.
• Uses initiative to resolve problems with appropriate action and follow through, including documentation in the laboratory’s error tracking system.
• Performs other duties as assigned.
