Job summary

UMass Memorial Health is seeking a Certified Pharmacy Technician to work on-site at Worcester, MA. The role involves preparing and packaging medications, handling inventory, and supporting pharmacists with distribution and record-keeping.

Under supervision, the technician will process medication orders, operate the Pyxis system, and help ensure accuracy, confidentiality, and efficiency in a busy hospital pharmacy environment.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent and completion of a Board-approved pharmacy technician training program.
  • Proficient in math and able to use a computer for data entry.
  • Able to follow oral and written instructions with accuracy and dependability.

Responsibilities

  • Performs duties in assigned practice area and may work in other areas as staffing requires.
  • Processes orders using the pharmacy computer system and delivers medications to medication rooms.
  • Maintains inventory, restocks, and monitors expiration dates of medications.
  • Prepares and packages various forms of medications, including sterile products using aseptic technique.
  • Assists with quality improvement initiatives and regulatory compliance, and maintains patient confidentiality.
  • Keeps a clean, organized work area and supports pharmacy staff as needed.

And everyone, in their own unique way, plays an important part, every day.Under the direct supervision of a technician supervisor and pharmacist, performs medication related tasks such as packaging, preparation of all forms of medications, record keeping, and all non judgmental aspects of drug distribution.I. Major Responsibilities:1. Performs duties in assigned practice area. Required to work in other practice areas, as staffing requires.2. Processes orders using pharmacy computer system. Delivers patient medications to medication room areas and stocks automated medication stations (Pyxis machines).3. Familiar with pharmacy technology and equipment. Capable of troubleshooting routine technical problems.4. Prepares and packages most forms of medications. Prepares sterile products using aseptic technique in compounding parenteral nutrition, antibiotics, and other IV drugs.5. Maintains inventory including floor stock medication. Reorders, restocks, and monitors expiration dates of all medications.6. Maintains required documentation in accordance with regulatory and hospital requirements and maintains respect for patient confidentiality. Assists in generating pharmacy reports.7. Conducts medication room inspections in assigned patient care area in accordance with regulatory requirements.8. Assembles drugs in an accurate and efficient manner for pharmacists to check; maintains a clean and orderly work area.9. Repackages bulk drugs in unit of use containers.10. Assists in quality indicator monitoring.11. Assists with yearly inventory in assigned areas.12. Participates in identifying problems or areas for improvement and assists supervisor with problem solving projects and improving operations; participates in Continuous Quality Improvement activities and/or teams.Standard Staffing Level Responsibilities:1. Complies with established departmental policies, procedures and objectives.2. Attends variety of meetings, conferences, seminars as required or directed.3.
