Job summary

MercyOne Pharmacies in Iowa seeks a Pharmacy Technician to float across outpatient pharmacies and participate in weekend rotations. The technician assists pharmacists with transcription, billing, packaging, labeling, inventory, and delivering exceptional patient service.

This full-time, day-shift role requires a high school diploma or equivalent, Iowa Board of Pharmacy technician registration, and relevant certifications.

Qualifications

• A high school diploma or equivalent.
• Registration with the Iowa Board of Pharmacy as a Technician.
• Certification by the Pharmacy Technician Certification Board (PTCB) or the National Healthcareer Association.

Responsibilities

• Greet and assist patients in person and on the phone professionally and confidentially.
• Communicate effectively with colleagues and customers; listen and adapt as needed.
• Represent MercyOne Pharmacies in a courteous, friendly, and caring manner.
• Adapt to changing schedules and priorities; manage workload accordingly.
• Operate cash register and process payments (cash, credit, etc.).
• Assist with inventory control: ordering, receiving, stocking, returns, and annual counts.
• Assist with invoice reconciliation and coding for finance.

Description

Pharmacy Hours: This position will float throughout all of our outpatient pharmacies and will be in the weekend rotation. The Pharmacy Technician assists in the technical functions of the practice of pharmacy, enabling the pharmacist to provide pharmaceutical care to the patient. An integral part of the pharmacy team, the technician transcribes prescriptions to the pharmacy dispensing system, bills insurance, packages, and labels medications, assists with inventory control, and provides exceptional customer service to our patients. (Unless specified each function is applicable to both certified pharmacy technicians and pharmacy technician trainee).

Organizational Summary

• Reports to: Retail Pharmacists, Lead Retail Pharmacists, Pharmacy Management
• Key Working Relationships: Pharmacists, other technicians and pharmacy support staff, pharmacy central billing staff, nurses, other clinic and hospital staff
• Primary Customer Groups: Patients, families and caregivers, clinic staff
• Age/Population of Patients Served: All

Essential Functions

• A. Greets and assists patients/customers in person and on the phone in a professional and confidential manner
• B. Communicates effectively with colleagues and customers alike, being a good listener and adjusting style as needed
• C. Represents MercyOne Pharmacies in a courteous, friendly, and caring manner
• D. Performs duties with flexibility, adapting to changing schedules and needs of the customers, prioritizing workload accordingly
• E. Operates cash register accurately, including cash, credit card, in store charges and payments on account
• F. Assists with all aspects of inventory control: ordering, receiving, stocking, returning, and additional drug inventory control duties, including checking pharmacy stock shelves for outdated drugs and assisting with annual inventory counts of all products stocked in pharmacy including prescription, non-prescription, and supplies with a focus on stewardship
• G. Assists with invoice reconciliation and coding for finance

Position Qualifications

• A high school diploma or equivalent
• Registration with the Iowa Board of Pharmacy as a Technician
• Certification Board (PTCB), or the National Healthcareer Association

OR

• Registration: Registration with the Iowa Board of Pharmacy as a Pharmacist-Intern per Board of Pharmacy rules: “Pharmacist-intern” or “intern” means a person enrolled in a college of pharmacy or actively pursuing a pharmacy degree, or as otherwise provided by the board, who is registered with the board for the purpose of obtaining instruction in the practice of pharmacy from a preceptor pursuant to Iowa Code section 155A.6. “Pharmacist-intern” includes a graduate of an approved college of pharmacy, or a foreign graduate who has established educational equivalency pursuant to the requirements of rule 657— 4.7(155A), who is registered with the board for the purpose of obtaining practical experience as a requirement for licensure as a pharmacist in Iowa. “Pharmacist-intern” may include an individual participating in a residency or fellowship program in Iowa, whether or not the individual is licensed as a pharmacist in another state
