Job summary

The YMCA of the Virginia Peninsulas is seeking a Personal Trainer who will develop and implement safe, individualized exercise programs for members and guests. You will collaborate with staff to welcome and engage the community while upholding YMCA values and safety standards.

Responsibilities include instructing proper technique, maintaining client records, and participating in trainings. A nationally recognized PT certification and CPR/First Aid are required; several specialty levels exist

Qualifications

• 18+ years of age minimum.
• At least 6 months wellness experience.
• National PT certification (ACSM, NSCA, AFFA, ACE, Cooper Institute, IFPA, NASM, NESTA).
• Specialty II/Level 1: national PT cert and 6 months training.
• Specialty II/Level 2: national PT cert and 2–4 years training.
• Specialty II/Level 3: national PT cert and 6+ years training.
• Must complete YMCA Healthy Lifestyle Principles and Foundations within 6 months.
• CPR/First Aid/AED/O2 certification.
• Complete trainings: NEO, Bloodborne Pathogens, CAP, Sexual Harassment.
• Criminal background and Child Protective Services checks.

• Lead to strengthen community through youth development, healthy living and social responsibility.
• Design safe, individual programs based on participants' needs and fitness levels.
• Provide proper instruction on form and technique.
• Maintain proper records on clients.
• Attend staff meetings and trainings as scheduled.
• Follow department standards and emergency procedures.
• Wear staff uniform and name tag when appropriate.
• Carry out duties to ensure a high-quality member experience.
