Job summary

Highland Rivers Behavioral Health seeks a Certified Peer Specialist to support a virtual telehealth hub. The role enhances engagement, helps individuals navigate the health system, and links to recovery supports.

The position requires a High School diploma and GA CPS credential (or eligibility). Strong communication and computer skills, plus a patient, person-centered approach, are essential.

Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or GED required.
  • Active Georgia CPS, CPS-AD, CARES, or WHAM credential or eligible for certification.
  • Strong computer, organizational and teaching skills.

Responsibilities

  • Staff peer warm line to provide engagement and supports for non-crisis recovery.
  • Provide outreach services to individuals served.
  • Offer information to help overcome engagement barriers and link to recovery supports.
  • Provide telephonic intervention using trauma-informed, person-centered approaches.
  • Follow up with individuals and coordinate with clinical staff as needed.
  • Share information on community and Agency resources with peers and families.

Highland Rivers Behavioral Health provides treatment and recovery services to individuals impacted by mental illness, substance use disorders and intellectual developmental disabilities.

JOB SUMMARY :

Brings the “lived experience” to the virtual telehealth hub to increase individual engagement and complement the service array offered to the individuals. These staff also help individuals navigate the health system and link to recovery supports.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Staff peer warm line to provide engagement and supports for individuals who are in need of non-crisis recovery supports.
  • Provide outreach services to individuals served.
  • Provide reliable and relevant information to help individuals overcome barriers that may prevent engagement, retention, or re-engagement in treatment .
  • Provides telephonic intervention to individuals experiencing distress utilizing relevant personal experience, trauma informed practices and person-centered methods
  • Follows up with individuals and provides support as appropriate.
  • Provides peers and their families with information on community and Agency resources.
  • Demonstrates strong customer-service oriented behaviors. Treats everyone in a polite, professional manner. Handles concerns, problems and issues in a manner that is helpful and responsive.
  • Coordinate with clinical staff as needed.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Requirements
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS :
  • High School Diploma or GED required.
  • Active Certified Peer Specialist credential from the State of Georgia or eligible certification: CPS, CPS-AD, CARES, or WHAM in the state of Georgia.
  • Computer skills, organizational and teaching skills, ability to work with minimal supervision.
  • Criminal background check clearance, official academic transcripts, valid driver’s license/ID, drug screen, TB test, and an eligible 7-year Motor Vehicle Report.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Bachelor’s degree in Psychology, Social Work, Sociology, Human Services, Criminology, or a related field of study.
  • Certified Addiction Recovery Empowerment Specialist (CARES) credential.
  • Trauma-Informed Care (TIC) credential.
  • Whole Health Action Management (WHAM) credential.
  • Certified Addiction Recovery Empowerment Specialist (CARES) credential.
  • Bilingual proficiency in English and Spanish is highly preferred.
