Description

At COMHAR, our mission is to provide health and human services that empower individuals, families, and communities to live healthier, self-determined lives. We are seeking a Certified Peer Specialist for our HOPE program.

The HOPE (Helping Opportunities for People's Empowerment) program is a site and community-based psychiatric rehabilitation initiative that is part of COMHAR's CIRC (Community Integrated Recovery Center) model for adults and seniors.

Responsibilities:

1. Serve as a role model to individuals in recovery, inspiring hope and sharing personal experiences and lessons learned.
2. Engage at-risk individuals and provide stage-appropriate recovery education and supports, including the use of leveling systems and evidence-based practices.
3. Assist in orienting new clients to mental health and substance use disorder services.
4. Help develop and implement educational and support groups, activities, and community events such as warm lines and calendars of events.
5. Connect individuals with community resources and peer supports outside the facility to promote community integration, including transportation training, educational classes, vocational services, health and wellness resources, and financial entitlements.
6. Participate actively in team meetings, promoting a recovery-oriented perspective in all discussions.

Requirements:

• High school diploma or GED plus Certified Peer Specialist (CPS) certification; experience working with individuals with co-occurring mental health and substance use challenges.
• At least 1 year of direct mental health service experience, which can include paid or volunteer work. Forensic training is a plus.
