Job summary

Resources for Human Development is seeking a compassionate Certified Peer Specialist in Pittsburgh, PA, to support adults facing mental health challenges and recovery journeys. This full-time role emphasizes lived experience, recovery coaching, and navigating complex systems.

Qualifications

  • Must have PA Peer Specialist certification.
  • Direct lived experience with mental health services and recovery.
  • Experience navigating the forensic system in Allegheny County.
  • Valid Driver's License and current automobile insurance.
  • Ability to use computers and electronic health record software.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain required clearances (Act 34, Act 33, FBI).

Responsibilities

  • Promote recovery principles with members, providers, families, and community stakeholders.
  • Provide recovery coaching, support recovery planning, and assist members in identifying strengths and achieving personal goals.
  • Help individuals reconnect with natural supports, peer recovery resources, and community self-help programs.
  • Assist members in accessing and navigating mental health, substance use, criminal justice, and community service systems.
  • Support members with scheduling appointments, attending meetings, and advocating for behavioral health, medical, and community needs.
  • Participate in treatment team and continuing care meetings as appropriate.
  • Utilize motivational interviewing techniques to identify strengths, needs, goals, and recovery strategies.
  • Provide telephonic support and education regarding recovery tools and resources.
  • Empower members to actively participate in treatment, goal setting, and self-advocacy.
  • Travel throughout the region to meet member needs.
  • Document services and complete billing requirements using electronic health record software.
  • Maintain required certifications and complete all training requirements.

What You're Do

As a Certified Peer Specialist, you will:

Qualifications

  • Access to a reliable personal vehicle
  • Forensic Certified Peer Specialist Certification

Candidates not currently holding Forensic Certified Peer Specialist Certification must successfully complete the required training within six months of hire.
