Job summary

Resources for Human Development is seeking a Certified Peer Specialist to provide peer support, advocacy, recovery education, and skill-building to Persons in Recovery. The CPS works as part of the Recovery Support Team and uses lived experience to model recovery and instill hope.

The role emphasizes community-based work (about 80%), documentation of progress, confidentiality, and adherence to HIPAA and OSHA policies. A PA CPS certification and driving eligibility are required.

Qualifications

• Pennsylvania Certified Peer Specialist (CPS) Certification is required.
• High School Diploma or GED is required.
• Valid driver’s license, insurance, and reliable transportation.
• Ability to pass Act 33 and State Police background checks.
• Self-identified current/former recipient of mental health or co-occurring services.
• At least 12 months of paid or volunteer experience in the past 3 years.

Responsibilities

• Provide peer support, recovery education, and skill-building to Persons in Recovery.
• Use lived experience to model recovery and instill hope.
• Help individuals develop Recovery Service Plans.
• Facilitate identification of strengths, supports, and resources.

What You’ll Do

The Certified Peer Specialist (CPS) provides peer support, advocacy, recovery education, and skill‑building to Persons in Recovery (PIRs). The role focuses on fostering hope, promoting wellness, strengthening natural supports, and helping individuals regain control over their recovery process. This position is part of the Recovery Support Team and models RHD values in all interactions.In this role, you will:

• Serve as an active member of the Recovery Support and CPS Teams.
• Use personal lived experience to model recovery and instill hope.
• Help individuals develop personalized Recovery Service Plans.
• Facilitate identification of strengths, supports, and community resources.
• Conduct regular meetings with clients, documenting progress per program standards.
• Provide education on recovery tools (e.g., WRAP), self‑help, mutual support, and orientation for new participants.
• Utilize Motivational Interviewing to support behavior change and combat negative self‑talk.
• Support individuals in community integration activities (social, educational, advocacy, etc.).
• Assist individuals in setting and achieving recovery goals, improving social and interpersonal functioning.
• Refer individuals to supportive services and communicate service successes or gaps to supervisors.
• Maintain CPS certification and attend required trainings.
• Safeguard confidentiality and comply with HIPAA, OSHA, fire safety, and organizational policies.
• Participate in staff meetings and promote a positive image of RHD.
• Document all services accurately and completely.
• Work primarily in the community (approx. 80% of time).
• Maintain professionalism and exercise sound judgment.
