Job summary

The Department of Health and Social Services (DHSS) in Delaware seeks a Certified Orientation and Mobility Specialist to support students who are blind or have visual impairments in navigating school, work, and community settings. You will conduct assessments, develop goals, and provide 1:1 instruction, collaborating with teachers, families, and agencies to prepare students for post-secondary transitions.

Qualifications

• ACVREP certified Orientation and Mobility Specialist is required.
• Six months of relevant experience or coursework as an COMS.
• Resume detailing education, training, and experience must be attached.

Responsibilities

• Plan and implement lessons for independent travel and mobility.
• Keep records and report student progress to schools and families.
• Attend meetings and advocate for students’ needs and goals.
• Acquire and deliver adaptive equipment; administer assessments and write reports with recommendations.
• Collaborate with school staff, families, and agencies to meet visual needs.
• Support transitions from school to post-secondary education or employment.
