Job summary

Northwestern Medicine is seeking a Certified Ophthalmic Technician to provide technical, clinical support and patient care in the ophthalmology department. You will perform various tests, support physicians, and act as a liaison between patients and doctors.

Qualified candidates have CPR-BLS, COT certification, and 3–5 years in Ophthalmology; a Bachelor's degree is preferred. This on-site role offers comprehensive benefits and opportunities for development.

Qualifications

  • CPR-BLS certification through American Heart Association.
  • Certification as Certified Ophthalmic Technician (COT).
  • Minimum 3-5 years of experience in Ophthalmology field (i.e. Ophthalmic Assistant, COA).

Responsibilities

  • Physician exam work-ups. Documentation requirements per physician expectations and special testing.
  • Ancillary testing, fields, biometries, glasses checks, etc.
  • Patient Communication, messages, pre-post operative teaching and communication and instruction, telephone triage.
  • Surgical instrument preparation, cleaning and maintenance. Equipment maintenance and room preparation. Exam room stocking and cleaning.
  • Ordering of supplies, IOL's, instruments, medications, ocular supplies etc.
  • Instruction of medical students, new employees, residents, fellows and other staff.

The salary range for this position is $26.60 - $39.90 (Hourly Rate)

Placement within the salary range is dependent on several factors such as relevant work experience and internal equity. For positions represented by a labor union, placement within the salary range is guided by the rules outlined in the collective bargaining agreement.

Description:

The Technician, Certified Ophthalmic reflects the mission, vision, and values of NM, adheres to the organization's Code of Ethics and Corporate Compliance Program, and complies with all relevant policies, procedures, guidelines and all other regulatory and accreditation standards. The Technician, Certified Ophthalmic is primarily responsible for technical, clinical support and patient care for various physicians and sub-specialists in the department of ophthalmology. This includes various tests to be performed as well as supporting physicians as their needs arise. Acts as liaison between patients and physicians, answering questions and providing educational assistance.
