Job summary

UCI Health is seeking a Certified Ophthalmic Assistant to join the ophthalmology clinic. The incumbent will perform preliminary examinations, assist physicians with diagnostics, and coordinate front and back-office operations to maximize patient flow.

Candidates should have COA certification, BLS, and strong English communication skills, with a focus on patient care and teamwork in a busy clinic environment.

Qualifications

• Understanding of medical terminology and age-related acuity levels.
• Previous COA certification holder with current status.
• BLS certification required by hire.
• Ability to communicate effectively in English and provide patient-centered care.
• Ability to triage patient calls and manage prescription refills.
• Capable of coordinating front and back office operations.

Responsibilities

• Perform preliminary examinations including patient history, visual acuity, intra-ocular pressure, refractions, and screening color tests.
• Coordinate scheduling and staff training with the manager to optimize patient flow.
• Formulate patient plans of care and follow-up under COT certification.
• Assist in orientation and training of new technicians and facilitate learning of diagnostic testing.
