Job summary

UCI Health in Orange County is seeking an Ophthalmic Assistant to perform preliminary examinations, record history, test visual acuity and intra-ocular pressure, and assist with refractions and ocular measurements.

Position involves patient education, incidental travel to other locations, and requires COA and BLS certifications with strong English communication. The role supports ophthalmic care across the health system.

Qualifications

• Understanding of medical terminology and infection control techniques.
• Ability to interpret patient data and assess age-specific needs.
• Proven experience as Ophthalmic Assistant.
• Excellent English written and verbal communication.
• Current COA certification.
• Current BLS certification by time of hire.

Responsibilities

• Perform preliminary examinations: record patient history, test visual acuity, intra-ocular pressure.
• Conduct keratometer readings, visual fields, GDX, topography, and axial length measurements.
• Assist with patient and pharmacy calls and prescription refills.
• Set up and assist with minor surgical procedures.
• Maintain ophthalmic equipment and retrieve lab/radiology reports.
• Educate patients and provide post-treatment care instructions.
