Job Summary

Join our ophthalmology team in Stoneham, conveniently located on Main Street (Route 28) just off Route 95 with free on-site parking. This location includes both Comprehensive Ophthalmology (COS) and Retina services, offering opportunities to gain experience across multiple specialties while working alongside a collaborative team of providers and clinical professionals dedicated to exceptional patient care. This full‑time position offers a consistent Monday–Friday schedule, 8:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., with no weekends. Whether you’re an experienced Certified Ophthalmic Assistant or looking to continue growing your career, Stoneham provides opportunities to expand your clinical knowledge, work with advanced ophthalmic technology, and collaborate with an experienced multidisciplinary team. Under the direction of the Chief Ophthalmic Technician and Service/Site Manager, the Certified Ophthalmic Assistant provides clinical and technical support to facilitate the delivery of high‑quality outpatient eye care. This role performs a variety of ophthalmic procedures, prepares patients for examination, and partners with the care team to support an efficient, patient‑centered clinic experience.

Qualifications

Education: High School Diploma or Equivalent required.

Can this role accept experience in lieu of a degree? No.

Licenses and Credentials

Certified Ophthalmic Assistant [COA] – Joint Commission on Allied Health Personnel in Ophthalmology (JCAHPO).

Experience

At least one year of experience as an Ophthalmic Assistant in a supervised clinical setting required.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

Knowledge of ophthalmic terminology, clinical procedures, and diagnostic testing. Strong interpersonal and patient service skills with the ability to communicate effectively with patients, families, and members of the care team. Ability to provide compassionate, patient‑centered care while supporting efficient clinic operations. Strong organizational skills with the ability to prioritize work in a fast‑paced environment. Ability to work independently and collaboratively within a multidisciplinary team. Sound judgment, attention to detail, and problem‑solving skills. Proficiency with electronic health records and standard computer applications, including Microsoft Office.
