Job summary

Princetonml seeks a Certified Occupational Therapy Assistant (COTA) to deliver skilled OT services in a Skilled Nursing Facility under the supervision of a licensed OT. You will implement individualized plans aimed at improving residents’ ADLs, IADLs, mobility, balance, strength, and safety to promote quality of life.

You will educate residents and families, document progress, ensure HIPAA compliance, and collaborate with the care team to support discharge planning and long-term independence.

Qualifications

  • Current COTA license in good standing.
  • Eligibility to work in SNF environments.
  • Strong clinical skills across ADLs/IADLs.

Responsibilities

Job description

The Certified Occupational Therapy Assistant (COTA) provides occupational therapy services under the direction and supervision of a licensed Occupational Therapist (OT) to residents in a Skilled Nursing Facility (SNF). The COTA implements individualized treatment plans designed to improve residents' ability to perform activities of daily living (ADLs), enhance functional independence, promote safety, and improve overall quality of life. This position requires excellent clinical skills, compassionate patient care, and compliance with all federal, state, facility, and payer regulations.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
  • Provide skilled occupational therapy interventions according to the established plan of care developed by the supervising Occupational Therapist.
  • Assist residents in improving performance with activities of daily living (ADLs), instrumental activities of daily living (IADLs), functional mobility, transfers, balance, coordination, strength, endurance, cognition, and upper extremity function.
  • Utilize therapeutic exercises, activities, adaptive equipment, and compensatory techniques to maximize resident independence.
  • Educate residents, family members, and caregivers regarding treatment goals, home exercise programs, adaptive strategies, and safety recommendations.
  • Observe resident progress and communicate changes in condition or functional status to the supervising Occupational Therapist.
  • Accurately document treatment sessions, resident progress, daily notes, progress reports, and other required documentation in accordance with facility policies and Medicare, Medicaid, and payer guidelines.
  • Participate in interdisciplinary team meetings, care planning conferences, and discharge planning as appropriate.
  • Maintain productivity standards while delivering high-quality, patient-centered care.
  • Ensure compliance with HIPAA, infection control standards, safety regulations, and professional ethical standards.
  • Maintain therapy equipment and treatment areas in a clean, safe, and organized condition.
  • Perform other duties as assigned within the scope of practice.
