Responsibilities

A Certified Occupational Therapy Assistant (COTA) plays a vital role in patient rehabilitation and care for individuals with various physical, mental, or emotional conditions. The main goal of a COTA is to assist patients in developing, recovering, improving, and maintaining skills necessary for daily living and work. Key responsibilities include:

1. Patient Care Execution: Under the supervision of an occupational therapist, execute therapeutic plans by teaching patients to use adaptive equipment, guiding exercises, and engaging in activities essential for recovery.
2. Activity and Program Planning: Assist in planning and selecting therapeutic activities tailored to each patient's needs and interests, aligning with the goals set by the occupational therapist.
3. Progress Monitoring: Regularly observe, document, and report patient progress, adjusting interventions as needed to ensure continuous improvement.
4. Patient and Family Education: Educate patients and families about therapy processes, adaptive equipment, and home modifications to promote ongoing recovery and independence.
