Responsibilities

A Certified Occupational Therapy Assistant (COTA) plays a vital role in the rehabilitation and care of patients with diverse physical, mental, or emotional conditions. The main goal of a COTA is to help individuals develop, recover, improve, and maintain skills necessary for daily living and working. Key responsibilities include:

  1. Patient Care Execution: Under the supervision of an occupational therapist, execute therapeutic plans by teaching patients adaptive equipment use, guiding exercises, and engaging in activities essential for recovery.
  2. Activity and Program Planning: Assist in planning and selecting therapeutic activities tailored to each patient's needs and interests, aligning with the goals set by the occupational therapist.
  3. Progress Monitoring: Observe, document, and report patient progress, adjusting interventions as needed to ensure ongoing improvement.
  4. Patient and Family Education: Educate patients and families about therapy processes, adaptive equipment, and home modifications to support long-term recovery and independence.
Qualifications
