Job summary

Precision Orthopedics and Sports Medicine in Cumberland, MD is seeking a full-time Certified Occupational Therapy Assistant (COTA) for outpatient work. You will support therapists in plan development, patient progress, and family education to enable functional independence.

MD licensure as a COTA and an associate's degree are required; CPR/First Aid is preferred. This role offers a collaborative team environment and a comprehensive benefits package across the DMV area.

Responsibilities

• Works with occupational therapists to plan, implement, and administer educational, vocational, and recreational programs to restore and enhance performance in individuals with functional impairments.
• Communicates and collaborates with other healthcare professionals involved with the care of a patient.
• Instructs or assists in instructing patients and families in home programs, basic living skills, and the care and use of adaptive equipment.
• Implements or assists with treatment plans to help clients function independently.
• Evaluates daily living skills and capacities of disabled clients.
• Maintains and reports progress and adapts plans as needed.
• Assists with daily housekeeping and laundry and scheduling of follow-up appointments.

The Certified Occupational Therapist Assistant will help occupational therapists provide occupational therapy treatments and procedures. The Occupational Therapist Assistant may, in accordance with state laws, assist in development of treatment plans, carry out routine functions, direct activity programs, and document the progress of treatments.

Minimum Qualifications:

• Current state licensure or certification as a COTA
• Certified to practice in the state of Maryland
• Associate's degree in an occupational therapy related field from an accredited program

Preferred Qualifications:

• Experience working in an outpatient rehabilitation setting.
• Certification in CPR and First Aid.

Responsibilities:

• Works with occupational therapists to plan, implement, and administer educational, vocational, and recreational programs to restore and enhance performance in individuals with functional impairments. Selects therapy activities to fit patients’ needs and capabilities. Observes and records patients’ progress, attitudes, and behavior, and maintains this information in client records.
• Communicates and collaborates with other healthcare professionals involved with the care of a patient.
• Instructs or assists in instructing patients and families in home programs, basic living skills, and the care and use of adaptive equipment. Implements or assists occupational therapists with implementing treatment plans to help clients function independently.
• Evaluates daily living skills and capacities of physically, developmentally or emotionally disabled clients.
• Cleans, maintains, identifies, and reports the need for repair of equipment, as necessary
• Alters treatment programs to obtain better results if treatment is not having the intended effect by discussing with an OTR.
• Demonstrates therapy techniques such as manual and creative arts or games.
• Teaches patients how to deal constructively with their emotions.
• Escort patients to and from the occupational therapy work area.
• Attends care plan meetings to review patient progress and update care plans.
• Inform Clinical or Office Manger when educational and treatment supplies are needed.
• Assists with daily housekeeping and laundry.
• Schedule patients for follow up appointments.
• Responsible for fabrication of orthoses on scheduled and walk – in basis if applicable.
• Responsible for adherence to department and patient treatment schedule,
• Responsible for submission of clinical documentation and charges within one business day.
• Responsible to obtain OTR approval prior to all patient discharges.
