Essential Duties
- Implement and execute established patient treatment plans under the supervision of a licensed Occupational Therapist.
- Communicate effectively with patients, families, referring physicians, and team members.
- Provide timely written documentation per facility and department requirements.
- Develop and enhance clinical and professional skills through ongoing knowledge and professional association participation.
- Document accurately and promptly as required by insurance providers to meet licensing, certification, regulatory, and reimbursement standards.
- Support and participate in department operations and development initiatives.
- Report any changes in patient status or needs to the supervising therapist promptly.
- Prepare and submit patient charges accurately for billing purposes.
- Meet or exceed productivity standards established with the supervisor.
- Use professional judgment to ensure safety for yourself, patients, and others at all times.
- Deliver quality patient care through effective interdisciplinary communication.
- Attend required meetings as scheduled by the Director of Rehab and/or Supervisor.
- Communicate effectively with therapists regarding patients' responses to treatment plans.
- Provide constructive feedback to rehab aides.
- Participate in in-services, training sessions, or other educational activities.
- Coordinate treatment goals with other team members.
- Maintain valid licensure, certification, or equivalent as required by the state.
- Stay informed about patient and community needs, conditions, and programs.
Supervisory Requirements
This position does not have supervisory responsibilities.
Education and Experience
- Associate Degree from an accredited Occupational Therapy Assistant program.
- One or more years of experience as a COTA preferred.
Language Skills
- Ability to understand and interpret complex written or verbal instructions.
- Excellent customer service skills and ability to interact effectively with patients, families, team members, physicians, and other healthcare professionals.
Mathematical Skills
- Ability to follow a treatment plan developed by an OT accurately.
Reasoning Ability
- Apply common sense understanding to carry out detailed or simple instructions.
- Handle problems involving a few concrete variables in standardized situations.
Certificates, Licenses, Registrations
- Certification as an Occupational Therapy Assistant in the state of practice.
- Knowledge of principles, methods, and equipment used in occupational therapy and body mechanics.
Physical Demands
- Ability to move intermittently throughout the workday.
- Ability to lift over 100 pounds with assistance, according to patient abilities.
- Capability to sit and walk for extended periods.
- Ability to travel to designated locations within a reasonable timeframe.
- Ability to bend, squat, push, stoop, and pull as needed for patient care activities.
- Meet general health requirements, including undergoing physical examinations as per facility policy.
