The Certified Occupational Therapy Assistant (COTA) performs direct resident care activities under the supervision of an Occupational Therapist.
Responsibilities
- Provide occupational therapy treatments to residents as per plans developed by the Occupational Therapist.
- Assist the Occupational Therapist with tests, evaluations, and complex treatments.
- Observe, record, and report conditions, reactions, and responses related to duties.
- Maintain treatment records and document resident progress as directed.
- Assist with admission screening.
- Collaborate with family members, physicians, and healthcare professionals as appropriate.
- Help maintain the occupational therapy department and equipment.
- Assist with in-service programs and meetings.
- Participate in continuing education to stay current in the field.
- Comply with Heritage Healthcare’s standards and guidelines.
- Contribute to rehabilitation team conferences regarding resident progress and needs.
- Follow company policies and participate in quality improvement and safety programs.
- Perform additional duties as assigned.
- Understand reimbursement processes and allocate resources efficiently to meet resident goals.
- Maintain knowledge of OBRA, HIPAA, and third-party reimbursement guidelines.
- Support compassionate care and project a professional image.
- Work independently, knowing when to seek supervision, and assist others as needed.
- Maintain productivity levels appropriate for your role.
Qualifications
- Graduate of an approved Occupational Therapy Assistant program.
- Current or eligible license in the state of practice.
- Experience in a similar setting preferred.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to follow therapist instructions and facility policies.
- Ability to perform activities safely, including:
- Standing for prolonged periods
- Pushing and pulling objects up to 35 lbs
- Lifting up to 50 lbs independently, with assistance for heavier loads
- Stooping, reaching, balancing, and other physical activities
