Job summary

Description
Position Summary

The qualified applicant must have completed an approved program specifically designed to train Occupational Therapy Assistants and hold a valid New York State Certificate as a Certified Therapy Assistant.

Experience

At least one (1) year of successful direct experience is preferred.

Essential Functions

Objectives

To provide direct assistance to the OTR in all areas of the Occupational Therapy (OT) program. The COTA will respond to classroom teachers when assigned to carry out programs designed by the OTR for the classrooms.

Specifications
  • Implement the school’s Occupational Therapy programs as prescribed by, and with the supervision of, the OTR.
  • Participate as a member of the Clinical Team to assist in the coordination of interdisciplinary efforts in establishing goals as assigned by the OTR.
  • Recommend treatment priorities, scheduling, and procedures to the OTR.
  • Provide therapy services on an individual and/or small group basis under the supervision of the OTR.
  • Maintain appropriate student records, including IEP documentation, progress notes, reassessment data, and reports to the OTR.
  • Maintain and utilize appropriate therapeutic materials necessary to conduct the OT program.

Additional duties may be assigned by the OTR based on the level of training, including participation in parent conferences when appropriate. The OTR will meet with the COTA at least weekly to review performance and discuss the OT programs.
