Responsibilities

A Certified Occupational Therapy Assistant (COTA) plays a vital role in patient rehabilitation and care for individuals with various physical, mental, or emotional conditions. The main goal of a COTA is to help individuals develop, recover, improve, and maintain skills necessary for daily living and working. Key responsibilities include:

  1. Patient Care Execution: Under the supervision of an occupational therapist, execute therapeutic plans, teach patients to use adaptive equipment, guide exercises, and engage patients in activities essential to recovery.
  2. Activity and Program Planning: Assist in planning and selecting therapeutic activities tailored to each patient's needs and interests, aligning with the goals set by the occupational therapist.
  3. Progress Monitoring: Monitor and document patient progress, observe changes, report findings to the occupational therapist, and adjust interventions to ensure ongoing improvement.
  4. Patient and Family Education: Educate patients and families about therapy processes, adaptive equipment, and home modifications, providing clear instructions to promote continued recovery and independence.
Qualifications
  • Degree from an accredited Occupational Therapy Assistant program
  • Current license/certification in the state of practice
