Job summary

New Concepts for Living (NCFL) seeks a Certified Occupational Therapy Assistant (COTA) in Paramus, NJ. Work with supervising OT and the Clinical Director to provide habilitative therapy, guiding independence and quality of life for adults with developmental disabilities.

The role requires NJ licensure as a COTA and a degree from an accredited OTA program, with 2+ years of clinical experience preferred. Join a team dedicated to compassionate, client-centered care in a supportive setting.

Qualifications

  • Degree from an accredited Occupational Therapy Assistant (OTA) program.
  • Valid New Jersey licensure as a Certified Occupational Therapy Assistant (COTA).
  • Minimum of 2 years of clinical experience preferred.
  • Experience with individuals with intellectual and/or developmental disabilities preferred.
  • Understanding of the needs/challenges of adults with I/DD.

Responsibilities

  • Provide habilitative therapy services focused on independence, skill development, and quality of life.
  • Collaborate with supervising OT(s) and Clinical Director to provide individualized care.
  • Adapt/tailor treatment approaches with the OT as indicated.
  • Document daily notes, progress notes, treatment plans, and discharge summaries.

Certified Occupational Therapy Assistant (COTA)

As a Certified Occupational Therapy Assistant (COTA) at NCFL, you’ll:

  • Provide habilitative therapy services focused on independence, skill development, and quality of life.
  • Work alongside supervising Occupational Therapist(s) and the Clinical Director to provide individualized care.
  • Coordinate with Occupational Therapist(s) to adapt or modify treatment approaches as indicated.
  • Support adults with I/DD as well as individuals with physical, cognitive, and/or psychological needs.
  • Help turn therapy recommendations into everyday opportunities for growth at home and in the community.
  • Educate direct support staff on recommendations and strategies to reinforce outside of therapy sessions.
  • Partner with Support Coordinators to encourage consistent implementation of recommendations across settings.
  • Complete daily notes, progress notes, treatment plans, and discharge summaries accurately and on time.
  • Maintain thorough documentation while meeting legal, ethical, and agency requirements.
  • Collaborate with healthcare providers and other members of the individual's care team to support effective, coordinated care.
  • Participate in multidisciplinary team meetings and contribute to a collaborative approach to client care.
  • Follow NJ DDD guidelines for habilitative therapy services and directives from supervising Occupational Therapist(s) and the Clinical Director.

Your Schedule:
  • Full-time
  • 45 hours per week
  • Monday–Friday
  • Day shift
  • Based in Paramus & Rochelle Park, NJ
What You’ll Bring:
  • Degree from an accredited Occupational Therapy Assistant (OTA) program
  • Valid New Jersey licensure as a Certified Occupational Therapy Assistant (COTA)
  • Minimum of 2 years of clinical experience preferred
  • Experience working with individuals with intellectual and/or developmental disabilities strongly preferred
  • Understanding of the unique needs and challenges of adults with I/DD
  • Strong communication, organizational, and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to work collaboratively with Occupational Therapists, healthcare providers, Support Coordinators, direct support staff, and other professionals
  • Ability to develop and implement effective treatment strategies and recommendations
  • Experience with Foothold AWARDS preferred
