Certified Occupational Therapist Assistant (COTA)

Position Summary:

The COTA Certified Occupational Therapist Assistant provides direct rehab care in occupational therapy to patients upon physician referral under the supervision of a licensed Occupational Therapist (OT), in accordance with all applicable laws, regulations, and Life Care standards.

Education, Experience, And Licensure Requirements:

• NBCOT certified upon hire; renewal is optional afterwards.
• Graduate of an accredited occupational therapy program (ASOT).
• Currently registered/licensed in the applicable State; active license in good standing required throughout employment.
• One (1) year experience in post-acute care or related setting preferred.
• CPR certification upon hire or during orientation; must remain current during employment.

Specific Job Requirements:

• Participate in community health projects as appropriate.
• Proficient in Microsoft Word, Excel, and email.
• Coordinate with patients, families, and support departments to plan for patient needs.
• Maintain good body mechanics at all times.
• Make independent decisions when necessary.
• Knowledge of practices, procedures, laws, regulations, and guidelines in post-acute care.
• Implement and interpret departmental programs, goals, and policies.
• Perform competently in all areas including patient rights, safety, and sanitation.
• Maintain professional relationships with colleagues and vendors.
• Keep proprietary and confidential information secure.
• Follow company policies including harassment and compliance procedures.
• Adhere to Life Care’s Code of Conduct and complete mandatory training.

Essential Functions:

• Follow occupational treatment plans under the supervision of the OT.
• Chart accurately and promptly.
• Use therapy software correctly.
• Provide excellent customer service with a positive attitude.
• Assist in patient evacuation when needed.
• Maintain dependable attendance.
• Use reasoning skills and good judgment.
• Work effectively on an interdisciplinary team.
• Perform physical activities such as sitting, standing, lifting, and walking during work hours.
• Read, write, speak, and understand English.
