Job summary

Memspa is seeking a Certified Occupational Therapist Assistant to join our St. Joseph County ISD program. You will work under an occupational therapist to deliver therapeutic treatments, document progress, and support students' equipment needs in a school setting.

The role requires an OTA program credential (Associate degree or 60 credits), NBCOT certification, and a valid Michigan LARA COTA license. Attendance, lifting ability, and collaboration with families and staff are essential.

Qualifications

• Completion of an accredited Occupational Therapy Assistant program resulting in an Associate's degree or at least 60 college credits.
• NBCOT certification as Occupational Therapist Assistant is required.
• A valid COTA license from Michigan LARA is required.
• Must be able to lift 30 pounds.
• Must maintain regular attendance and physical presence at the job site.

Responsibilities

• Perform therapeutic treatments as outlined and under the guidance of the occupational therapist.
• Maintain records and reports regarding contact and evaluations with students and other providers.
• Evaluate, fit, and adjust students' equipment/splints appropriately.
• Maintain therapy equipment and purchase appropriate equipment for department.
• Prepare treatment areas and equipment for treatment.
• Research and order new equipment for treatment.
• Prepare physician prescriptions at the beginning of each year and keep updated.
• Repair, adjust, adapt, clean, and maintain equipment.
• Observe progress and report to therapist with suggestions for treatment advancement.
• Document progress toward objectives and communicate needs to family and professionals.
• Maintain therapy files for each child and schedule according to IEPC.
• Educate teachers and family members about occupational therapy and attend IEPs.

QUALIFICATIONS:

• Completion of an accredited Occupational Therapy Assistant program, resulting in an Associate's degree or at least 60 college credits.
• Requires Occupational Therapist Assistant Certification from the National Board for Certification in Occupational Therapy (NBCOT).
• A valid COTA license from the Michigan Department of Licensing and Regulatory Affairs (LARA)
• Responsibility of employee to obtain and maintain all training(s), certificate(s), approval(s), etc. and provide documentation to the business office before expiration date of said document(s).
• Must be able to lift 30 pounds.
• Required to have a physical presence at the designated job site each scheduled work day.
• Must have regular and reliable job attendance, performance, and the physical ability to do the job.

PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Schedule children according to times listed on the child's IEPC.
• Educate teachers, other professionals, and family members about occupational therapy.
• Attend IEPs and necessary meetings.
• Make appropriate referrals to other members of the educational support team.
• Exhibit positive personal, professional, work ethic and high motivation through consistent demonstration of professional work behavior.
• Perform other duties as assigned by the St. Joseph County ISD administrators.

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT:191-day position. Salary and conditions of employment are determined by the Board of Education.
