Job summary

St. Joseph County ISD is hiring a Certified Occupational Therapist Assistant to support students under the supervision of an occupational therapist. You will help deliver therapeutic services, manage equipment, and document student progress.

The candidate must complete an accredited OTA program with an Associate's degree or 60 college credits, hold NBCOT certification, and possess a COTA license from LARA. Must lift 30 pounds and maintain reliable attendance.

Qualifications

  • Must have accredited Occupational Therapy Assistant program resulting in an Associate's degree or 60 college credits.
  • NBCOT certification as an Occupational Therapist Assistant is required.
  • COTA license from Michigan LARA is required.

Responsibilities

  • Perform therapeutic treatments as outlined and under the guidance of the occupational therapist.
  • Maintain records and reports regarding contact and evaluations with students and other providers.
  • Evaluate, fit, and adjust students' equipment/splints appropriately.
  • Maintaining therapy equipment and purchasing equipment for the department.
  • Prepare treatment areas and equipment for treatment.
  • Observe child progress and report to therapist with suggestions for treatment advancement.
  • Communicate student status and needs to family, teachers, and professionals.
  • Maintain therapy files for each child with goals and progress.

CERTIFIED OCCUPATIONAL THERAPIST ASSISTANT

Salary: $29,406-$40,904

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Completion of an accredited Occupational Therapy Assistant program, resulting in an Associate's degree or at least 60 college credits.
  • Requires Occupational Therapist Assistant Certification from the National Board for Certification in Occupational Therapy (NBCOT).
  • A valid COTA license from the Michigan Department of Licensing and Regulatory Affairs (LARA)
  • Responsibility of employee to obtain and maintain all training(s), certificate(s), approval(s), etc. and provide documentation to the business office before expiration date of said document(s).
  • Must be able to lift 30 pounds.
  • Required to have a physical presence at the designated job site each scheduled work day.
  • Must have regular and reliable job attendance, performance, and the physical ability to do the job.

PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Perform therapeutic treatments as outlined and under the guidance of the occupational therapist.
  • Maintain records and reports regarding contact and evaluations with students and other providers.
  • Evaluate, fit, and adjust students' equipment/splints appropriately.
  • Maintain therapy equipment and purchase appropriate equipment for department.
  • Prepare treatment areas and equipment for treatment.
  • Research and order new equipment, as needed, for treatment.
  • Prepare physician prescriptions at beginning of every year and keep updated throughout the year.
  • Repair, adjust, adapt, clean, and maintain equipment.
  • Observe child's progress and report to therapist with suggestions for treatment advancement.
  • Appropriately documents progress toward identified objectives.
  • Communicate student status and needs to the student, the student's family, teachers, and other professionals.
  • Maintain therapy files on each child which includes student data, goals, objectives, and progress/assessment reports.
  • Schedule children according to times listed on the child's IEPC.
  • Educate teachers, other professionals, and family members about occupational therapy.
  • Attend IEPs and necessary meetings.
  • Make appropriate referrals to other members of the educational support team.
  • Exhibit positive personal, professional, work ethic and high motivation through consistent demonstration of professional work behavior.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the St. Joseph County ISD administrators.

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT:191-day position. Salary and conditions of employment are determined by the Board of Education.
