Job summary

Kaiser Permanente is seeking Certified Occupational Health Technicians to perform state- and federal-regulated screening tests under OH&S contracts with external clients. You will coordinate care, register patients, schedule referrals, collect specimens, administer injections, and conduct phlebotomy and screenings per California and KP protocols.

Minimum Medical Assistant experience with certs listed in the job ad is required, along with the ability to work in a labor/management environment.

Qualifications

  • Minimum two years of clinical experience as a Medical Assistant within the last three years.
  • One year experience in an occupational health clinical setting within the last three years.
  • Per the National Agreement, current KP Coalition employees have this experience requirement waived.

Responsibilities

  • Communicate with employers and/or Workers Comp insurance carrier to obtain authorization/claim status for treatment plan, test results, and inquiries regarding OH&S services.
  • Provide support in coordination of care to Physicians and patients.
  • Answer calls, schedule appointments including specialty referrals, and register patients based on facility/clinic protocol.
  • Submit reports to employers, insurance carriers, case managers and utilization review companies.
  • Coordinate OH&S Services and maintain records and database.
  • CPAP data extraction.
  • Make available recent tests/diagnostics/consults for physician review.
  • Schedule equipment maintenance and inspections as needed to comply with legal standards.
  • Provide training to new hires, may include verification and tracking of certifications of staff.
  • Obtain basic history, and medical information, and take vital signs; prepare for provider needs for patient examinations and procedures.
  • Administer injections and medications under physician supervision per CA law and Kaiser protocols.
  • Perform phlebotomy, testing, EKGs, and related screenings.
  • Provide patient and room preparation for medical procedures and tests including post exam supplies.
  • Provide wound care and dressings as appropriate.
  • Provide off-site OH&S services as necessary.
  • Enter and reconcile services performed into internal database (STIX) for billing.
  • Order supplies and equipment.
  • Maintain occupational health testing as required by regulations.
  • Performs other duties as required.
