Job summary

Mercyhealth is seeking a Certified Nursing Assistant to provide hands-on patient care under RN supervision in a multi-unit setting. You will assist with vital signs, catheter and drain care, telemetry setup, and documentation, while keeping patients comfortable and safe.

The role requires completion of a CNA program, current CNA certification, and CPR/BLS within 90 days. You will participate in training, support performance improvement activities, and contribute to a collaborative healthcare

• CPR or BLS certification required within 90 days of hire.

Responsibilities

• Provide patient care as assigned under RN supervision and according to standards.
• Respond to call lights promptly and document care provided.
• Maintain a clean, stocked, and organized patient environment.
• Float between units as needed to meet patient care needs.
• Train new partners in collaboration with unit educator.
• Monitor vital signs and support with telemetry as directed.

Job description

OVERVIEW

Provides hands-on patient care and support, including taking vital signs, monitoring blood glucose, bladder scanning, telemetry, and assisting with catheters, drains, and other medical devices under RN supervision. Responds to patient needs, documents care, maintains supplies and a clean environment, floats between units as needed, and helps train new team members.

SHIFT: Days

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

• Provides patient care as assigned and per routine as defined by educational scope, according to standards of care, shift routines, and policies and procedures.
• Answers call lights in a timely and appropriate manner.
• Documents care provided according to standards.
• Maintains a clean work and patient environment.
• Maintains supplies, including scanning, stocking and ordering new supplies and disposing of expired or damaged supplies.
• Floats to various units based on identified patient care needs.
• Participates in department or unit performance improvement activities.
• Training/precepting new partners in collaboration with unit educator.
• Blood Glucose Monitoring (BGM) with lab personnel.
• Bladder scanning procedure reviewed.
• Bladder scanner training complete (check off sheet for competency).
• Attaching patient to remote telemetry or bedside cardiac monitor.
• Managing and reporting collection devices.
• Colostomy, ileostomy or other fecal management systems: care and output measures.
• Indwelling catheters: care and output measures.
• Nasogastric tubes to suction.
• Surgical drains under direction of supervising RN.
• Competent in completing vital signs: Manual process for blood pressure and required reporting of abnormal values to supervising RN.
• Discontinue invasive devices under the direction of the supervising RN.
• Indwelling (Foley) catheters.
• Nasogastric tubes.
• Peripherally inserted intravenous catheters.
• Similar devices as appropriate.

EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE

Completion of a CNA program.

CERTIFICATION/LICENSURE

• Current CNA certificate in applicable state.
• Approved CPR or BLS certification required within 90 days.
