HOURLY RANGE: $19.408 - $25.592

Distinguishing Features of the Class: The work involves performing routine and semi-skilled tasks in the overall care of the physically ill, physically disabled, and mentally incapacitated residents and patients at the Long-Term Care Facility of the Erie County Medical Center Corporation. The activities support the daily functions and operations of an assigned unit or area. Work is performed under the supervision of professional or para-professional nursing staff, following policies and regulations of local, State, and Federal authorities, as well as accepted standards of practice. Supervision is not a function of this position. Performs related work as required.

Typical Work Activities:

1. Performs or assists patients and residents in personal hygiene tasks, dressing, treatments, or other care activities;
2. Turns and positions patients and residents; assists in transferring, ambulating, and transporting;
3. Passes and empties bed pans and urinals; provides care for incontinent patients and residents;
4. Assists in feeding, including passing and collecting trays, setting up meals, and cleaning after eating;
5. Responds to patients’ and residents’ requests for assistance;
6. Provides therapeutic assistance such as range of motion exercises and assists with occupational and physical therapy exercises;
7. Utilizes adaptive equipment like splints, wedges, and stockings;
8. Assists with activity programs;
9. Prepares deceased persons and transports bodies to the morgue;
10. Observes and reports changes in physical condition or behavior;
11. Distributes linens and toiletries, makes beds, and maintains a clean, safe environment;

Knowledge, Skills, Abilities, and Personal Characteristics:

• Working knowledge of feeding, bathing, and caring for the ill;
• Knowledge of aseptic and sterile techniques;
• Knowledge of first aid;
• Ability to follow instructions and understand English;
• Ability to maintain a cheerful attitude and work well with others;
• Ability to perform light housekeeping tasks;
• Dependability, patience, empathy;
• Capable of performing essential functions with or without reasonable accommodation.

Minimum Qualifications: Possession of a Certified Nursing Assistant Certification to practice in New York State at the time of appointment and maintained throughout the appointment.
