Job summary

Louisville Metro Government's Family Health Centers is seeking a Certified Nursing Assistant to perform clerical and patient care tasks under supervision. You will respond to inquiries, schedule appointments, assist providers, prepare charts, perform basic vital signs, and document in the EHR.

CHARACTERISTICS OF THE WORK

Under general supervision, performs clerical and patient care work for Family Health Centers (FHC).

EXAMPLES OF THE WORK

• Responds to patient inquiries and schedules appointments for patients in person and via telephone.
• Assists providers with administrative and clinical duties.
• Receives, registers, and directs patients to proper areas for examinations.
• Prepares medical charts for new patients, records medical history, assesses and documents chief complaints, and checks and records vital signs, height, and weight.
• Makes appropriate entries on patients’ charts in electronic health record (EHR) system.
• Obtains specimens, performs and documents basic laboratory tests, and prepares specimens for transport to appropriate laboratory.
• Provides appropriate patient care based on age-appropriate growth and development principles.
• Cleans, stocks, and orders supplies for exam rooms.
• Travels between FHC clinics and satellite offices as needed.
• Adheres to standard precautions.
• Performs related work as required.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS

• High school graduation or its equivalent.
• Certified Nursing Assistant certification.
• An equivalent combination of training and experience may be substituted as determined applicable by Civil Service.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS AND WORKING CONDITIONS

• Moves and/or lifts more than 100 lbs. when positioning patients or when assisting them on and off the examination tables.
• Must wear personal protective equipment (PPE), as mandated by OSHA and/or FHC.
• Responds to patient and FHC’s needs via the telephone, internet, fax, computer software and in person.
• Identifies medical record documentation, requests and/or releases.

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS

• Must obtain CPR certification by the end of the probationary period and maintain certification throughout employment with FHC.
• Must provide own transportation to work at other FHC locations as needed.
• Must be available to work a varied schedule.
• Must be vaccinated for Hepatitis B, have provided evidence of immunization, or have signed a declination form within 10 days of initial assignment.
