Summary

Under the supervision of a Registered and/or Practical Nurse, performs various care activities for seniors in a long-term care environment. Assists residents with dressing, bathing, or eating. Collects non-invasive body fluid specimens and vital signs, but does not start or administer intravenous fluids. Assists nursing staff with procedures as needed. Documents resident care services and interactions.

Essential Position Functions

• Responds to signal lights, bells, or intercom to determine residents’ needs.
• Bathe, dress, and undress residents.
• Serves and collects food trays; feeds residents requiring assistance.
• Transports or assists residents with walking.
• Prepares residents for examinations and treatments, assists with instrument holding and light adjustments.
• Turns and repositions residents to prevent bedsores.
• Changes bed linens, runs errands, directs visitors, and answers calls.
• Measures and records vital signs and food and fluid intake/output as directed.
• Assists with laundry and housekeeping duties.
• Maintains cleanliness of residents’ rooms.
• Dependable with good attendance and punctuality.
• Performs other duties as assigned by supervisor.

Education/Experience

• One-year college or technical school certificate, or three to six months related experience/training, or equivalent.
• Certified Nurse’s Aide certification in Michigan required.
