Job Summary

Under the supervision of a Registered and/or Practical Nurse, performs various care activities for seniors in a long-term care environment. Assist residents with dressing, bathing, eating, and other personal care tasks. Collect non-invasive body fluid specimens and vital signs, without starting or administering intravenous fluids. Support nursing staff with procedures as needed. Document resident care and interactions appropriately.

Essential Position Functions

1. Respond to signal lights, bells, or intercom to determine residents’ needs.
2. Assist residents with bathing, dressing, and undressing.
3. Serve and collect food trays; assist residents requiring help with eating.
4. Transport residents or assist with walking.
5. Prepare residents for examinations and treatments, stay with residents during procedures as needed.
6. Turn and reposition residents to prevent bedsores.
7. Change bed linens, run errands, direct visitors, and answer phones.
8. Measure and record vital signs and intake/output as directed.
9. Assist with laundry and housekeeping duties.
10. Maintain cleanliness of residents’ rooms.
11. Dependably meet schedule requirements, including attendance and punctuality.
12. Perform other duties as assigned by supervisor.

Qualifications

• One-year certificate from college or technical school, or three to six months related experience/training, or equivalent.
• Certified Nurse’s Aide certification in Michigan required.
