JOB SUMMARY
The Clinical Nursing Assistant is responsible for coordinating and delivering patient care utilizing the nursing process under the supervision of a Registered Nurse in a hospital setting.
RESPONSIBILITIES AND SCOPE
Assist physicians and other healthcare providers with routine examinations and procedures, as well as procurement of equipment and supplies during emergency situations.
Observe, collect, and document patient information obtained while providing care and promptly report significant changes in the patient's condition to a registered nurse or physician.
Assist patients and their families during admission to the clinical area, orientation to the hospital/clinic/home health experience, and discharge.
Provide care/treatments to patients as outlined in the plan of care, including but not limited to:
Monitoring vital signs
Measurement of height and weight
Specimen collection
Skin preps/scrubs such as chlorhexidine (CHG) bathing
Catheter care
Capillary blood glucose checks
Simple wound care
Range-of-motion exercises
Drain care
Assist patients with routine activities of daily living (ADL) such as bathing, dressing, feeding, and assisting with ambulation as outlined in the plan of care.
Maintain an effective clinical work environment, including but not limited to cleaning the work area, changing linens, maintaining and monitoring supply levels, and transporting patients/specimens throughout the hospital.
Ensure competency in all required skills and complete annual competency assessments per the documented checklist. Adhere to policies and perform other related duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS
Required
Must have nursing assistant certification, such as Nurse Aide I registration as administered by the North Carolina Board of Nursing (NCBON) or an equivalent certification.
Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.
