Position Summary

The George Washington University Hospital is seeking skilled and compassionate Certified Nursing Assistants (CNAs) to join our Intensive Care Unit (ICU). As a CNA in the ICU, you will provide vital patient care and support under the direction of Registered Nurses and medical staff. This role is crucial for maintaining patient safety, assisting with complex care procedures, and ensuring a high standard of care in a fast-paced, high-acuity setting.

Responsibilities
  • Assist patients with activities of daily living, including bathing, dressing, feeding, and mobility support.
  • Monitor and record vital signs, including blood pressure, heart rate, oxygen saturation, and temperature.
  • Assist with patient transfers, turning, and repositioning, ensuring proper body mechanics and skin integrity.
  • Support nursing staff during emergency situations and complex procedures.
  • Report changes in patient condition, mental status, vital signs, and skin integrity.
  • Set up and maintain medical equipment such as oxygen systems and suction devices.
  • Maintain a clean, safe, and organized environment following infection control protocols.
  • Document patient care activities accurately in electronic medical records (EMR).
Minimum Qualifications
  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Active CNA certification in Washington, D.C., or completion of at least 2 years of nursing school.
  • Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.
  • At least 6 months of CNA experience in an ICU, step-down, or telemetry unit.
  • Strong communication, observational, and critical thinking skills.
  • Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced, high-stress environment while maintaining professionalism.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience in a teaching or academic hospital setting.
  • Familiarity with ventilators, monitoring equipment, and advanced patient care techniques.
  • Knowledge of electronic medical records (EMR) systems.
