7A Medical SurgicalTelemetry Medicine Observation Unit (7A) is a medical/surgical telemetry unit, specializing in the care of cardiac patients. This 28-bed, fast-paced unit has a strong team culture. This environment promotes critical thinking, problem solving, and career advancement. The nurse-to-patient ratio is 1:5, and CNAs have a ratio of 1:12. The unit has received top scores for employee satisfaction over the past five years.
Job SummaryUnder close supervision, assists professional nursing and care providers in providing care to all patients, respecting their individual needs. Collaborates with RNs and the healthcare team. Assists with basic patient care and activities of daily living. Maintains unit-specific documentation as required. Orders, maintains, and utilizes supplies for the assigned unit.
Essential Functions:
- Provides a safe environment for all patients, ensuring proper patient positioning and care throughout their stay. (10%)
- Assists the RN/LPN in implementing the established plan of care for assigned patients. (10%)
- Practices safety and infection control according to hospital policies. (10%)
- Obtains vital signs, differentiates normal from abnormal findings, and reports any abnormalities. (5%)
- Participates as a team member by offering assistance or requesting additional tasks when not busy. (5%)
- Accurately gathers patient information and performs data entry. (5%)
- Performs transportation duties, including moving patients, delivering specimens, blood products, medications, and accessing the pneumatic tube system. (5%)
- Documents Plan of Care accurately and completely. (5%)
- Coordinates care with RN/LPN based on patient needs. (5%)
- Participates in outcome-focused care planning with measurable goals. (5%)
- Collaborates with multidisciplinary teams for care coordination. (5%)
- Participates in discharge planning. (5%)
- Assists in identifying realistic outcomes to support patient health and ongoing care. (5%)
- Performs chart audits to promote quality improvement. (5%)
- Monitors patient and family responses, reporting changes to the RN/LPN and updating the plan of care. (5%)
- Adheres to professional standards, regulations, hospital policies, and standards of care. (5%)
Education:
- No High School Diploma or GED required
Work Experience:
- Less than 1 year required
Licenses:
- CNA - Certified Nursing Assistant, DORA - Department of Regulatory Agencies required
- BLS - Basic Life Support (BLS/CPR), AHA or American Red Cross required
