Job Summary

The Certified Nursing Assistant performs nursing procedures and patient care tasks.

Supervisory Responsibilities

None.

Duties and Responsibilities

• Provides personal hygiene and daily living assistance, including bedpan and urinal use, baths, backrubs, shampoos, shaves, and shower assistance. Assists with meals and feeding. Ambulates, turns, and positions patients.
• Provides water and nourishment between meals.
• Administers enemas, douches, dressings, surgical preps, ice packs, heat treatments, sitz baths, therapeutic baths, and applies restraints.
• Performs intake and output checks, vital signs, weight measurement, urine testing, specimen collection, and post-mortem care.
• Works effectively as part of a team, assists in orientation of new employees, and maintains good relations with staff through appropriate communication.
• Maintains a neat appearance and performs duties competently and compassionately to instill patient confidence. Reports patient observations to the nurse for assessment.
• With specialized training and approval, may perform additional tasks pertinent to the area.

Education and Experience

• High school diploma preferred.
