Certified Nursing Assistant

Reports to: Keystone Administrators and Building Administrators in assigned buildings

This is a 10-month per year position (follows Easton USD #449's school schedule).

Purpose

The Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) is a paraprofessional member of the nursing staff who works under the supervision of a registered nurse and performs various services for a student to meet personal needs and promote comfort. The CNA observes, reports, and documents student care. The assignment is made by an RN to ensure quality, continuity, and safety of care.

Essential Functions
  1. Perform personal care needs and attend to student requests promptly; report unperformable tasks to the RN.
  2. Provide positive communication with students and families, respecting confidentiality and ethical standards.
  3. Ensure safety and proper use of equipment.
  4. Assess and report on student’s condition and significant changes.
  5. Follow documentation, care procedures, and professional conduct standards.
  6. Participate in quality assessment and performance improvement activities.
  7. Respect the student and family environment and personal needs.
  8. Follow health care plans and doctor orders as delegated by an RN.
Job Limitations

The CNA performs only nursing tasks permitted in the school setting for Kansas or tasks delegated by an RN.

Other Functions
  1. Meet training requirements of the state.
  2. Hold current CNA certification.
  3. Be at least 18 years old.
  4. Read and follow written instructions, document care.
  5. Perform nursing duties in a school setting comfortably.
  6. Provide satisfactory references.
  7. Work independently with little supervision.
  8. Show empathy for students' needs.
  9. Maintain current CPR certification.
  10. Demonstrate tact, patience, and good hygiene.
Skills and Knowledge

Skills include problem-solving, data collection, effective communication, and responding to stakeholders. Knowledge encompasses understanding disabilities, human behavior, laws, and medical procedures.

Abilities

Ability to schedule, gather data, operate equipment, work independently and with others, maintain confidentiality, and communicate effectively. Problem-solving and team collaboration are essential.

Work Environment

Physical demands include lifting up to 50 pounds, pushing, pulling, stooping, kneeling, crouching, crawling, and fine motor skills. The environment is generally hazard-free with minimal temperature variation.

Job Details

Type: Full-time or part-time based on student needs.

Pay: $18.00 - $23.00 per hour.
