Job summary

Novant Health’s Med/Surg 3 unit seeks a Certified Nursing Assistant for day shift care at NH NHRMC. You will deliver patient-centered support, assist with daily activities, and collaborate with nurses to maintain comfort and dignity during each patient’s stay.

The role emphasizes teamwork, safety, and compassionate care, with a focus on documentation and communication in a busy hospital setting. A high school diploma and NAI/Mgmt safety training are required.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or GED is required.
• 1 year of experience preferred; 1 year in assisted living or long-term care may be required for some units.
• Completion of NAI program and Medication Safety - AME required.
• State-approved curricula for restrictive interventions within 3 months of hire for ED/Behavioral Health units.

Responsibilities

• Deliver high-quality, patient-centered care and support daily activities to promote comfort and dignity.
• Collaborate with nurses and providers; share observations to support care plans in fast-paced settings.
• Assist with ambulation, repositioning, and fall-prevention to help safe recovery.
• Document vitals and patient status accurately to aid clinical decisions.
• Provide a calm, supportive environment for patients and families.
• Assist patients with activities of daily living and maintain a safe, clean environment under RN supervision.
• Assisted Living units only: help residents with daily living and report status changes to the Charge Nurse.

What You'll Do

• Deliver high-quality, patient-centered care by using your clinical experience to anticipate needs, support daily activities, and promote comfort and dignity throughout each patient’s stay.
• Serve as a trusted partner to nurses and providers, using your seasoned judgment to share meaningful observations, support care plans, and help the team stay aligned in a fast-paced environment.
• Guide safe mobility and recovery efforts, drawing on your expertise to assist with ambulation, repositioning, and fall-prevention practices that keep patients progressing safely.
• Ensure accurate, timely documentation of vitals and patient status, contributing reliable information that strengthens communication and supports excellent clinical decision-making.
• Foster a calm, supportive environment for patients and families, using your experience to offer reassurance, set expectations, and help others feel grounded during challenging moments.
• Provides and documents assistance to patients with activities of daily living and maintenance of a safe and clean environment under the direction and supervision of a registered nurse.
• Assisted Living units only: Responsible for assisting residents with activities of daily living as scheduled and reporting any change in status to the Charge Nurse

What We’re Looking For

• Education: High School Diploma or GED, required.
• Experience: 1 year, preferred. 1 year of Assisted Living facilities only: experience working in long-term care or assisted living, required.
• Licensure/Certification: Completion of NAI program, required. Medication Safety - AME, required. NC state approved curricula for restrictive interventions (facility specific) within 3 months of hire for Emergency Departments and Behavioral Health units, required.
• Additional Skills (preferred): Basic computer skills for documentation.
