Summary

The Certified Medication Technician administers medications as documented in the MAR, following proper techniques to ensure safe medication passes within the allotted time frame 100% of the time. They document all medications accurately, maintain supplies and equipment on medication carts, and alert the Nurse Manager/Designee for any needs. They ensure medication carts are locked, stocked, and clean at shift start and end. Monitoring community members’ responses to medication and reporting observations is essential, including administering PRN medications and monitoring for side effects. They collaborate with pharmacy providers to reorder medications as needed, work safely to minimize loss, and maintain confidentiality. They give shift reports to the Nurse Manager/Designee and handle telephone and verbal medication orders. They respond to community members’ call lights and assist with ADLs as needed. Additional duties may be assigned.

Job Qualifications
  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Certification as a Nurse Aide in the state of employment
  • Certification as a Medication Technician in the state of employment
  • Insulin certification required, or willing to obtain within six months of employment
  • CPR certification required, or willing to obtain within six months of employment
  • Recent assisted living experience preferred
  • Excellent communication skills for interacting with community members, visitors, and staff
  • Ability to manage time and organize daily schedules to meet productivity standards
  • Ability to stand and walk for long periods
  • Ability to lift heavy objects using proper techniques and assistance as needed
  • Ability to transfer and move community members weighing 200+ lbs with assistance and proper techniques
  • Ability to push and pull equipment weighing over 40 lbs using proper techniques and assistance as needed
  • Manual dexterity and coordination for working with community members and equipment
  • Ability to perform documentation in writing and on computer
  • Visual acuity, including the ability to distinguish colors
