Job summary

Bettendorf Health Care Center is seeking a Certified Medication Technician (CMT) to provide safe, accurate medication administration and compassionate resident care. You will work under a licensed nurse, adhere to state guidelines, and support daily resident needs in a long-term care setting.

Responsibilities include documenting meds, monitoring vital signs, taking action on changes, and ensuring a calm, safe environment for residents and teamwork with the care staff.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED preferred.
• Must pass a state-issued exam.
• CMT certification in the state of Iowa.
• Six months experience in long-term care preferred.
• Ability to communicate effectively with residents and families.
• English proficiency required; additional languages a plus.

Responsibilities

• Administer medications under physician order and nurse supervision.
• Follow the five rights of medication administration.
• Record all medications given to residents.
• Take and record vital signs as required.
• Respond to resident call lights and rounds with supervision.
• Monitor for adverse reactions and report to licensed staff.

Essential Functions of Certified Medication Technician (CMT)

• Perform resident care responsibilities in a manner conducive to their safety and comfort consistent with company clinical policies and procedures as well as state/federal guidelines and regulations
• Administer medications as ordered by a physician under the supervision of a licensed nurse, in accordance with any state and federal regulations and consistent with center policy
• Demonstrate knowledge of the "five rights" of medication administration
• Administer and record all medication given to residents based upon their specific chart
• Notify appropriate licensed staff when a resident complains of pain
• May take and record vital signs of residents as assigned or as may be required by certain medications
• Record the administration of medications and/or treatments appropriately, utilizing the computer system to enter and reference resident information as needed
• Answer resident call lights, anticipate resident’s needs and make rounds to assigned residents under the supervision of a licensed nurse or charge nurse on the shift
• Observe for and report any reactions and/or side effects of medications to a licensed nurse on the appropriate shift
• Perform all aspects of resident care in an environment that optimizes resident safety and reduces the likelihood of medical/health‑care errors
• Support and maintain a culture of safety and quality
• Administer PRN medications in accordance with state and federal regulations and consistent with center policy
• Report and when appropriate, record any changes observed in condition or behavior of residents and unusual incidents
• Perform other duties as assigned

Qualifications of Certified Medication Technician (CMT)

• High school diploma or general equivalency is preferred
• Must pass a state‑issued exam
• Required valid certification as a CMT in the state of Iowa
• Six months experience in a long‑term care environment is preferred
• Candidates must maintain a working e‑mail address and phone number for employer communication
• Ability to react decisively and quickly in emergency situations
• Ability to communicate effectively with residents and their family members, and facility staff
• Communicate effectively in English, both verbally and in writing
• Additional languages preferred
• Basic computer knowledge
