Responsibilities

• Work under supervision of a licensed nurse to administer medications as authorized.
• Organize medication duties: pour, pass, and document prescribed medications, administer PRN medications per nurse’s instruction.
• Document all medication activities according to state standards.
• Observe and report reactions or side effects of medications to the charge nurse.
• Take and record vital signs before administering medications that affect vital signs.
• Prepare and administer medications permitted for medication aides, documenting in the resident’s record.
• Administer oxygen in emergencies, notify the nurse, and document appropriately.
• Count and document narcotics as directed by the charge nurse.

Qualifications

• Successfully completed a state-approved medication administration program.
• Hold a current acknowledgment card or certification issued by the state.
• Willing to adhere to state restrictions on your role.
• Be a certified nursing assistant.
