Job summary

Cantex Continuing Care Network in Frisco, TX is seeking a Certified Medication Aide (Full Time, Day shift) to administer oral and topical medications to residents under the supervision of a licensed nurse, in accordance with state and federal rules. Qualifications include state certification as a Nursing Assistant and, where required, a state-approved medication administration certification.

Qualifications

• State certification as a Nursing Assistant is mandatory.
• State-approved medication administration certification where required.
• Ability to read, write, and speak the English language.

Responsibilities

• Administers medications as ordered by a physician under the supervision of a licensed nurse, in accordance with state and federal regulations and facility policy.
• Demonstrates knowledge of the five rights of medication administration.
• May take and record vital signs of patients/residents as assigned or as required by certain medications.
• Records the administration of medications and/or treatments appropriately.
• Observes for and reports any reactions or side effects of medications to a licensed nurse or the appropriate shift.
• Administers PRN medications in accordance with state and federal regulations and facility policy.
• Documents reason for and response to PRN medications in a timely manner.
• May dispense narcotics and must account for them under supervision of the licensed (or charge) nurse per facility policy.
• Properly secures medication carts/medication rooms per state and federal regulations and facility policy.
• Attends facility education in-services.
