Job summary

The Springs Healthcare & Rehabilitation in Cedar Park, TX is seeking a Certified Medication Aide (CMA) to support residents with accurate medication administration. The PRN-8 hour shift pattern provides flexible coverage while ensuring safe, compassionate care in a skilled nursing setting.

Responsibilities include following physician orders, accurate dosing, reporting changes to licensed staff, maintaining medication storage and infection control, and adhering to state regulations.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or equivalent.
• Certified Medication Aide in the State of Texas.
• CPR certification (preferred).
• Reliable transportation.
• 1 year+ healthcare experience, preferably in long-term care.
• Committed to health and safety standards.
• Compassionate and supportive demeanor.

Responsibilities

• Obtain report from licensed nurse/CMA being relieved and document sufficient information related to medication administration.
• Administer medications accurately and timely to residents including correct resident, medication, dose, route and time.
• Observe residents for effectiveness and adverse effects; report to licensed nurse immediately.
• Document resident care related to medication administration and report adverse effects or changes in condition to licensed nurse.
• Notify licensed nurse of changes in residents’ conditions, medication errors, or unavailable medications.
• Perform duties of Certified Nurse Aide as assigned.
• Follow care plans related to medication administration based on each resident’s needs and assessments.
• Participate in community education programs.
• Promptly report observed changes in residents’ conditions to the licensed nurse.
• Respond to residents’ calls for assistance promptly.
• Verify narcotic counts; check emergency kit and exchange keys.
• Obtain in-service hours required.
• Observe infection control procedures.
• Perform other related duties as directed by supervisor.
• Store medications accurately and monitor expiration dates.

The Job

The CMA willsupport the community by ensuring residents are well cared for and receive accurate medications as ordered by the physician/physician extender in accordance with established nursing standards, standards of medication aide practices, state and federal requirements, and guidelines of the community related to medication administration.

Responsibilities

• Obtain report from licensed nurse/CMA being relieved and recordsufficientinformation related to medication administration to implement accurate changes to medication orders.
• Administer medications to residents in an accurate, timely manner to include, but not limited to, correct resident/correct medication/correct dose/correct route/correct time.
• Observe residents for effectiveness of drug therapy and occurrence of adverse effects. Report immediately to licensed nurse.
• Document resident cares related to medication administration, related monitoring, and report to the licensed nurse any occurrence of observed adverse effects/change in resident's condition.
• Notify licensed nurse of observed changes in residents’ conditions, medication errors, medication not available, and any otherobservations.
• Perform duties of Certified Nurse Aide as assigned.
• Follow comprehensive care plans related to medication administration based on each resident’s needs and his/her comprehensive assessment as assigned.
• Participate in Community education programs.
• Promptly report observed changes in residents’ conditions to the licensed nurse.
• Respond to residents’ call for assistance promptly.
• Verify accuracy of narcotic count; check emergency kit and exchange keys.
• Obtain in-service hours required.
• Observe infection control procedures.
• Perform other related duties as directed by his/her supervisor.
• Store medications accurately and appropriately, monitor drug expiration dates and follow process for destruction.

Qualifications

• Enjoy working in a skilled nursing facility setting, eager to improve and continuously learn new skills
• Ability to lift and/or move up to 50 pounds with physical capability to perform job-related duties
• Validated ability to act in a compassionate and supportive manner
• Prior experience in a healthcare environment (minimum of 1 year); preferably in long term care
• Willingness to enforce health and safety standards
