Job summary

Camellia Gardens Center for Nursing and Rehabilitation is seeking a Certified Medication Aide (CMA) to join our team. As a CMA, you will prepare, administer, and document medications for residents, ensuring orders are signed and residents are correctly identified.

Responsibilities

  • Accurately prepare, administer, and document medications as ordered for resident care.
  • Verify physician orders before administration.
  • Verify resident identity prior to medications or treatments.
  • Ensure medications are for the correct resident and are as prescribed.
  • Observe and verify medications are ingested or applied as directed.
  • Document refusals or omissions of prescribed medications.
  • Assist with medication documentation and charting as directed by nursing leadership.
  • Monitor inventory and report shortages; ensure floor stock.
  • Order prescribed medications, supplies, and equipment per procedures.
  • Verify narcotic records during your shift.
  • Follow disposal policies for medications.
  • Notify supervisor of discrepancies.
  • Review medication records for accuracy and compliance with orders.

What You'll Do
  • Accurately and safely prepare, administer, and document oral and topical medications commonly used in the facility as ordered for resident care.

  • Ensure that no medication is administered without a written, signed, and dated physician's order.

  • Verify each resident's identity before administering medications or treatments.

  • Ensure medications are administered only to the resident for whom they are prescribed.

  • Observe and verify that medications are ingested or applied as directed.

  • Document any instance in which prescribed medication is not administered, including the reason for refusal or omission.

  • Assist with medication documentation and charting as directed by the Nurse Supervisor or Charge Nurse.

  • Monitor medication inventory and verify that adequate floor stock medications, supplies, and equipment are available. Report shortages promptly.

  • Order prescribed medications, supplies, and equipment in accordance with facility procedures.

  • Verify the accuracy of narcotic records during your shift.

  • Follow facility policies and procedures regarding the disposal of medications.

  • Notify the Nurse Supervisor or Charge Nurse of any medication or narcotic discrepancies.

  • Review medication records for completeness, accuracy, and compliance with physician orders and stop-order policies.

What You'll Need
  • Current North Carolina Certified Medication Aide (CMA) certification.

  • Current/active CPR certification.

  • Effective verbal and written communication skills in English.

  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and demonstrate the highest level of professionalism.

  • Strong organizational skills with excellent attention to detail.

  • Ability to prioritize tasks and manage multiple responsibilities in a fast-paced environment.

  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.

  • Ability to work independently while collaborating effectively with the healthcare team.

  • Customer service mindset and the ability to remain calm under pressure.
